“If we can’t make it happen, it really, truly, can’t happen!”
That’s how Shannon Anderson sums up the knowledge, the creativity and the dedication she and Michiel van de Poel – husband and business partner – put into events presented and prepared by vandePoel Productions.
Shannon’s passion centers on “doing what every other company promises but doesn’t deliver on.” Michiel revels in having the freedom and control “to create new and different things.” The goal, every time, is to produce a new and better production than the one that preceded it.
That’s the reason Shannon built BlinQ, an automated registration system designed for flexibility. “Our registration system allows each client to do exactly what they want with it,” she says.
The company’s strategic partners – The Visual Frame Co. and Wentex – share that sense of pride and professionalism. The VF Co provides custom extrusions and light boxes for signage and staging. Wentex is a special events company specializing in ready-to-use textile products. “These are products I truly believe in,” Michiel says. “I used them in Europe and wanted to bring them to the U.S. as well.”
The key to vandePoel’s success is being thorough, resourceful and creative, says Shannon. “Our clients often bring us pie-in-the-sky ideas. Our goal is to figure out how to incorporate their crazy schemes within budget.”
Adapting clients’ wish lists to limited budgets is their biggest challenge, Shannon acknowledges. But creating events that consistently exceed client expectations “is worth the effort in the end,” says Shannon.
What do they enjoy most about what they do? Meeting new people, trying new things and basking in the knowledge of a job well done.
“Our philosophy is simple,” Shannon says. “We listen to what the client is asking for – and we never lose sight of the fact that this is their event.
Michiel van de Poel – Owner & Technical Director
Michiel fell in love with sound engineering while studying theater at school. He jumped at the opportunity to work for the Dutch broadcast organization (NOS) and, later, the BBC.
He has fond memories of touring with various celebrities, among them Madonna and her Blond Ambition tour. Since starting VandePoel productions, he has produced dozens of international corporate shows as a specialized engineer and technical lead. Corporate clients include Hewlett Packard, Phillips, Microsoft, Etisalat, Facebook, Panasonic and Sony.
His passion? Achieving a perfect delivery time and time again.
Shannon Anderson – Owner & Project Director
Shannon jumped into the event business with both feet while working for a country club in Kalamazoo, Michigan. But 10 years working for boutique registration firms in Seattle left her yearning for a better, more capable system than the ones she’d been using.
“They lacked affordable technical innovation, practical data application – and customer service,” she says.
Shannon set out to create her own registration system. She gathered the best of the best in the industry to help her build a versatile and truly custom-built registration experience that combines groundbreaking technical applications, maximizes the use of data gathered and provides professional customer support. The result was BlinQ Automation.
Through the years, Shannon has managed a wide range of corporate and technical marketing programs, conferences, trade shows and high-profile sporting events. Her clients include Microsoft, Facebook, Aegon and the Young President’s Organization.
